As a delivery organization for the archival community, the Canadian Council of Archives administers the Young Canada Works program from the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program offers students and young graduates the chance to acquire experience in their chosen field. This program applies to any archival institution whether or not they are a member of their provincial/territorial council.

Archives in museums may apply to the Canadian Museum Association (www.museums.ca) for their summer projects. CMA has a generous funding envelope for summer employment projects, and they support proposals prepared by archives that are part of museums.

2012 Campaign

IMPORTANT: The application deadline for Summer Projects and Internships is February 1, 2012.

  • All applications must be prepared online. No paper copies will be available. Your institution may consider keeping paper copies of the application and reports for your file.
  • Please download and read the Employer Guide prior to completing your application. A copy of the guide can be found by visiting the Department of Canadian Heritage website.
  • It is not an obligation for institutions that apply under the Young Canada Works program to be a member of their provincial or territorial archival council or association.
  • Please apply separately to museums (CMA) or libraries (CLA, ASTED) for positions that are not related to archives.
  • PLEASE NOTE: 2011 YCW accounts are not connected to the 2012 accounts. Therefore, an employer or student cannot activate a 2012 account from their 2011 account. However, if an employer or student wishes to access their old 2011 account, they can visit this link: http://www.youngcanadaworks.ca/archives/index-eng.cfm
  • Reminder: You will need only ONE(1) master account on the Young Canada Works interactive website in order to apply to one or more delivery organization (CCA, CLA, CMA, Asted, CHF etc.) We do not recommend that you submit an application for the same position/job title to more than one delivery organization.
  • Your master account will enable you to complete applications for Summer Jobs for students, as well as Internships for graduates. You will be using this account to report on all stages of your project.

Mailed signed copies of your application are no longer required.
