On January 17, 2014, representatives from the Association des archivistes du Québec (AAQ), the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA), and the Canadian Council of
Archives (CCA) coordinated a special one-day discussion forum, Canadian Archives Summit: Towards a New Blueprint for Canada’s Recorded Memory. The Summit marked the
beginning of a strategic visioning and planning process for the Canadian archival system. Building on the ideas and challenges raised in the Summit presentations and
reports, the Canadian archival community decided to establish a Canadian Archival System Working Group to develop a renewed vision, structure, and strategy for the
Canadian archival system.
The Working Group’s objective is to serve as a mechanism to advance discussions initiated at the Canadian Archives Summit in a way that is strategic, focused on
results, and participatory among members of the Canadian archival system.
The Working Group is tasked with setting a clear strategic direction for the Canadian archival system, and with establishing roles and responsibilities to realize
this direction in the medium and long term. The Working Group will consult with the archival community and key stakeholders at appropriate intervals throughout the
course of its work.
