Archives Help Write Homegrown History
For the past few years I have been conducting research on the general history of my hometown, Lawn, Newfoundland and
Labrador. It is my intention to write a short history on Lawn, something that has not been attempted before. That research
has led me to the various archives here in our province where I have been conducting the vast majority of my research. I
have used the Provincial Archives, the Maritime History Archives, as well as the Archives of the Roman Catholic church and
have found them to be virtual treasure troves of historical information, much of which I am including in my book. The staff
at these facilities has also been encouraging and I have always found them to be very professional. My book will only come
to fruition if I am able to continue with the use of the archives mentioned and others in this province. I, therefore, am
in full support of at least maintaining the present level of funding to the archival resources as they continue in their
work enhancing the lives of all Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans through careful preservation of our unique and rich past.
