Canadian Archives: Music to My Ears

As a professor at the Faculty of Music at l'Université de Montréal, I regularly use music-related fonds conserved by the Archives Division of l'Université de Montréal. The Serge Garant, Gilles Potvin, and Jean Vallerand fonds have been very useful in my research and have contributed to numerous publications. I also regularly send my students to take advantage of music-related fonds at the Archives Division of l'Université de Montréal for their work in second and third year. In addition, I donated some personal documents to the Archives Division and I encourage other professors or musicians to do the same in order to ensure continued research into Canadian music. Music is a privileged field of acquisition at the Archives Division. It is thus very important that its mandate to acquire, treat and develop these records be supported by all means possible, including the Heritage Minister's financial assistance programmes by the intermediary of the Canadian Council of Archives and with the support of Library and Archives Canada.
