Advocacy Strategy 2004

Millions of documents, photographs, maps and audio-visual material are held in archives across Canada. The Canadian Council of Archives (CCA) is a charitable organization representing an extensive network of archives that, on behalf of all Canadian, stands united and committed to ensuring the preservation of and access to our priceless heritage treasures for the enjoyment and education of current and future generation.

As an alternative service delivery partner for distribution of federal funding Programmes to the archival community, CCA plays an important role in ensuring accountability, fairness and value to Canadians through an extensive adjudication process that is inclusive and respects the diversity of each province and territory, as well as thorough and effective management of the contribution Programmes.

The current funding Programmes expire on March 31, 2005, at which point Library and Archives Canada must obtain Treasury Board approval to replace or renew the terms and conditions for these Programmes.

Action Plan Timelines
1. Become informed about the issues and key messages August 2004
2. Stories from users of archives (recruit, write and send to CCA) August 2004
3. Establish contact with local Member of Parliament (write, meet, and follow-up) August - September 2004
4. Enhance public and media awareness September - December 2004
