Ancestors' Medical History Assists Ailing Relative
Just a quick note to let you know how valuable the Roman Catholic archives at the Archdiocese in St. John's were to me as I traced my family tree. The material contained several missing links that allowed me to complete at least two additional generations in the tree.
A few months ago one of my relatives was hospitalized with what was classified as a life threatening illness. The physicians who were treating him were at a loss as to what was wrong. It was at this point that I received a call from his mother asking for the places of birth for his ancestors and any known illnesses. (As you may well be aware, there are certain illnesses which are unique to certain areas of our province). As a direct result of material I had gleaned from your archives I was able to provide her with this information, and this in turn was used to assist the doctors in their treatment regime. Again, Thank you for maintaining the archives to the professional level which allows for research such as I have done. I'm sure my relative who was in hospital, and has since been discharged, also extends sincere appreciation for the work you do
